Songs That Make You…

I got it from dslartoo who got it from birdofparadox:

What song…

Reminds you of an ex-lover? “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. My particularly non-romantic ex-SO shocked the heck out of me by sending me the lyrics and telling me why they made him think of me.

Reminds you of an ex-friend Neil Diamond’s “Red, Red Wine.” My ex-husband and Dee (one of my best friends) loved Neil Diamond and I couldn’t stand him, particularly that song (I’d heard the more recent reggae version first and that’s how it was “supposed to be” in my head). I sent them off to his concert together so I wouldn’t have to go. She also liked Cher and went to one of her concerts while we were living together, so Cher’s late ’80s/early ’90s stuff makes me think of Dee, too.

Makes you cry “Life is Eternal” by The Flirtations. Well, it makes me tear up, but I can still sing it. Katie got really attached to that song during her father’s illness and we played it at the graveside part of his funeral service.

Makes you laugh Most anything by TMBG and a lot of Moxy Fruvous’ songs

Makes you wanna dance Basia’s “Time and Tide” because it’s the song that was playing when I learned to rhumba.

Reminds you of the one you love “No Matter What Goes Right” by Trout Fishing in America

You wish you wrote “Teach Your Children to Sing” by Schooner Fare

You never want to hear again That Barney song, or “The Song That Never Ends” or “It’s a Small World After All”

You want to get married to That would depend on the kind of wedding we have and what my partner wanted. Songs that come to mind include “Not Too Much to Ask” by Mary Chapin Carpenter, “No Matter What Goes Right” by TFIA, the main theme from The Princess Bride, “Holding Me Tonight” by Carly Simon, “Just Because” by Gaia Consort—lots of them.

Sums up your teenage years That would be a lot of different songs, by everyone from Dan Fogelberg to PDQ Bach to Bow Wow Wow to Genesis.

You used to hate but now love Can’t think of any. If I hate something, I pretty much hate it forever.

You love that you wouldn’t know about if it wasn’t for a friend Everything Dar Williams has done. Thanks, rasilio.

Reminds you of your first crush Don’t know about the first crush, but “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross reminds me of my first “real” boyfriend.

Makes you think of the moon “Just Because” by Gaia Consort

Makes you think of stars “Don’t Let the Stars Get In Your Eyeballs” by Trout Fishing in America is the only song that comes to mind when I think of stars. Well, other than “Twinkle, Twinkle.”

Makes you think of the sun Many of Mike Rayburn’s songs, now, because I have such good memories of hearing them at a concert on the beach at Pine Lake.

Makes you think of the night “Blue Champagne” by Manhattan Transfer

Makes you think of sex “Possession” by Sarah McLachlan. Actually, most of that CD.

Makes you think of being alone A lot of Melissa Ethridge’s songs, although that’s starting to change a little since sambear likes them too. I encountered her music as I was separating from my ex-husband and he absolutely hated her stuff.

You love to hear at clubs It’s been so long since I’ve been to a club that I can’t answer this one.

Has only been released recently but you love already I’m not really a “new releases” gal. I don’t listen to commercial radio much at all, so I seldom know what’s been released recently. But I do like Bonnie Raitt’s new CD Silver Lining

Current Mood: 🤔nostalgic
Current Music: “Silent Legacy” by Melissa Ethridge
