I’ve been in care for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder and anxiety due to complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) off and on since around 1988. I also have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and I had an eating disorder as a teen. All of my diagnoses are pretty typical for trauma survivors.
I was recently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I’m learning about that now.
I needed treatment long before I received it. My parents didn’t recognize the problem, though, and I didn’t have the vocabulary to know what I needed.
Most of my diagnoses are primarily related to being sexually assaulted as a child and experiencing long-term cyberstalking and harassment. Other factors may contribute to the issue, but childhood trauma is strongly correlated with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and other symptoms.
