World’s Best Explanation of Mardi Gras

Well, Mardi Gras is in memory of the time when Jesus shut himself up in a cave because he was pissed off at someone. It’s a long story. For forty days and forty nights he didn’t come out. You see, he had let some of his disciples borrow some of his stuff and they hadn’t returned it and it made him mad, and that’s why people call the forty days “lent,” because Jesus lent his stuff to people who didn’t give it back. It made him really angry so he went down in the cave and refused to talk to anyone.

From misia, quoting someone from her childhood. You need to go to her post to read all of it, though.
