They Take What?

U.S. Combat Pilots on Speed is scary. I know perfectly well that stimulants have long been used in the military, but why the hell are they still using amphetamines when modafinil is available? Yes, it’s damned expensive—but it can’t be more expensive than losing people and equipment to the poor judgments of pilots hopped up on speed. Or hell, just the physical and mental costs of having pilots and other soldiers using amphetamines regularly, which definitely is NOT healthy—and that’s before you get to the addiction issues.

And I thought the U.S. military was already using modafinil, but maybe John Ringo was well ahead of the curve in whichever of the Posleen books it was that mentioned it. I remember it because I take the stuff myself, to deal with the fatigue that comes with chronic pain.
