The Democ­rats’ mis­take was in think­ing that a dis­as­trous war and nation­al bank­rupt­cy would be of con­cern to the electorate.

The Repub­li­cans cor­rect­ly saw that the chief con­cern of the elec­torate was to keep gay cou­ples from hav­ing an abortion.
