Well, we tried to go to a house concert. We looked forward to it all week. I asked the host about the accessibility of the location, and she said she had a close-by place where we could park and easily access the venue and that the concert room itself had no barriers.
None of that was true.
The venue was down a pretty long residential street and had all of three parking spots (the sorta-wide dead end of the street) at the end of a long, steep driveway. There was nowhere that we could park close enough for me to walk. If I used my scooter, there was nowhere to park it during the concert. (It isn’t very comfortable to sit on for long periods.) We arrived an hour early, and all three “nearby” parking spaces were already occupied. Rick would have dropped me off and gone to find parking, but there was none. The street was very narrow, and there were already people parking on the street in front of many houses. I don’t know where the concert attendees were expected to park. We didn’t hang around to find out. We had to reverse down the street until we came to a cross street. What would it be like with a crowd?
One of the things we wanted in a house was a place to hold house concerts. Unfortunately, we didn’t find that in an otherwise desirable house. We did try, though, because there has been a vacuum in that area ever since one wonderful couple moved out to Arizona.
Oh, well. In the future, we must plan a drive-by look at all new-to-us venues to check their accessibility.
We came home, had dinner, played The Hygge Game, and enjoyed each other’s company. We also listened to some new CDs, so there was music. It just wasn’t the planned music.
