TotD: Robin Laws on Roleplaying Games

I hadn’t ever thought of it this way, but I think the man is on to something.

“One of my pet theories about the popularity of roleplaying games goes like this. Roleplaying is fantasy shopping for guys. That is, men would, as a group, be more interested in shopping if a) it meant never […]

Date Night Happiness

My sweetie had to run a bunch of errands before he got home last night, which shortened our date a bit. Groceries were needful, though. We had some delicious deli-style sandwiches after he got home, so there wasn’t a kitchen mess to deal with, too.

I think we watched an episode of West Wing while […]

I Will Try Not to Bore You

But tonight’s game was really, really good, and even though we retconned something and most GMs wouldn’t be as accommodating as Sam, he managed to make a new thing damn near as difficult (or more so than) the old thing, and how is it that he has so much story in there?

Oh! He also […]

I want to see Darkon

An LJ friend posted about this movie today, with a link to Feel the Sting of My Foam Sword: A must-see documentary about LARPing. I haven’t LARPed, but I’m fascinated. It sounds as if the documentary was done with respect for the players. The article certainly is more accepting of the pastime that most journalism. […]

Semester done!

I took my project management final tonight, so I’m done with the semester! Now I’m trying to download the textbook files for next semester, but the ebook server is having Issues.

In the meantime, I’m listening to some lovely new music, free and legal, over at TheSixtyOne. I don’t know how Sam found out […]

Gone Already?

Wow. This has been a very short week. I’m sure it doesn’t feel that way to my poor Sam, but it does to me. That’s what happens when you sleep through most of it, I suppose. I’ve avoided acknowledging the possibility that Katie AND I have mono, but I have the same symptoms she does, […]

What do you want to read or hear?

I recorded some more pieces, but need to wait for Sam to “produce” them (clean them up and add appropriate music). One of them isn’t something I would have chosen myself, but Todd, who created Live Readings, asked to hear others read it. It turned out better than I thought it would. And it was […]

Happy Car Day!

Well, that’s what it felt like. Poor Sam had to take time off from work, because it was Pain Doc Day. The pain doctor is off in the wilds of Cobb County, because that’s where we lived when I started seeing a pain doctor, and it’s darn near impossible to get a reference to a […]

Thing-a-Day 2

My creative time today was spent webmistressing. I tweaked some WordPress templates to work better, and moved more stuff over from my old site format to WordPress. It may not seem like much, but I always rewrite and update as I do that, so I figure it counts.

Sam and I had lots of fun […]

MomoCon?

Anybody going to MomoCon here in Atlanta? I’d never heard of it before today. It’s free, and may be in its second year (I’m not sure). It seems quite small, which could be nice. It’s local, which is a big plus for us. I’m unclear as to whether there’s any gaming happening or not, and […]
