A Christmas Like No Otter by Zoe Chant
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
A Christmas Like No Otter is book four according to GoodReads (and Amazon). The author calls it book five. I learned that after I read it, of course. (I hate reading books out of order!) Anyway, I think we can tell from the title that the puns are running a little thin now. And two water creatures in a row? (The previous book is Sealed With a Kiss.) Are we trying a little too hard to get away from the standard shifter critters?)
Blaire is Virtue’s new choir director, and she’s hoping to get off to a good start. Unfortunately, the church’s longtime pianist up and quit with absolutely no notice at their first practice! She’s in for another surprise, though, as the pianist’s nephew Abe shows up to take over. He’s a gifted musician with absolutely stunning looks, but he seems to be so shy that he can’t meet her eyes or speak with her intelligibly.
Abe isn’t truly shy, but he knows the first time he sees Blaire that she’s his fated mate. He’s tongue-tied and desperately awkward every time he’s near her because his otter is an extremely excitable creature.
Don’t expect a real plot from this book. It lost two out of five stars for that.
I could relate to this pair more than most of the others, perhaps because I spent so much time playing, singing, and leading music in churches when I was younger.
