Web Sites for Readers
As if the web itself isn't seductive enough to those of us who love words, there are innumerable sites devoted to readers. Some are catalogs or online bookstores, and some have information and reviews about books and authors (sometimes even full texts available for downloading).
- Firebird is a great catalog, especially if you're a fan of Mercedes Lackey.
- Amazon, of course, but I think everybody who hasn't been hiding in a ditch knows about that one! I've been quite happy with the items I've ordered from them.
- The Internet Bookshop claims to be the world's largest online bookstore. I think Amazon and a couple of others claim the same honor, though, so let's just say it's a neat place, okay?
- BookStacks has been recommended as another good source, and apparently they carry sheet music as well.
- Bibliofind specializes in rare and out-of-print books.
- Bookpool has many technical books.
- Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller - orginally a catalog organization, now moving some of its operation to the web.
- Powells is a Portland, Oregon bookstore that sells new and used books via the web.
