The Insanity of BMI

Kate Harding created this very cool slide show to show just how absurd it is to rely on body mass index to determine whether or not people are at a healthy weight.

BTW — I did not “miss” blogging yesterday. February 29 was the only “day of rest” for Blog365, so I took it 🙂 It felt odd, though!

Semester done!

I took my project management final tonight, so I’m done with the semester! Now I’m trying to download the textbook files for next semester, but the ebook server is having Issues.

In the meantime, I’m listening to some lovely new music, free and legal, over at TheSixtyOne. I don’t know how Sam found out about the place, but it’s neat.

Jen, the little one reminds me of Cherub!

Hat tip to Noël Figart 😉

SBQ: Stitching weaknesses?

What is your cross stitch weakness? (i.e., What do you have to have when you see it, even if you are supposed to be on the Wagon?)

I’m supposed to go telling my weaknesses, in public?

Well, I guess I’ve already exposed them, considering the lists on my site. I adore “different” patterns. If it jumps out from all the cutesy crap, I want it. Celtic knotwork is another one. I haven’t seen too many good pagan designs, so when I do, I pay attention.

Flu. Mono. Whatever.

Whatever it is, it sucks. No matter how long Katie and I sleep, we stay exhausted.

We did watch more Dexter while we were awake. And I studied for my Project Management final. I’m actually using the study guide, like a good girl! Hey, my brain is so stupid right now that I need all the help I can get. Maybe I should have read some of the text, huh?

Oh! I finished Shirley Damsgaard’s Ophelia & Abby series. Very good stuff! They’re cozy mysteries, but there’s also an interesting portrayal of people following a “family tradition” of folk magic.1

On to Stranger in Death!

1 I have to say that the references to “witches” have caused some interesting changes in the ads Google is sticking on this site. Love spells? Please!

Never, Never on a Sunday

Nope, not Sunday. Mostly. Well, maybe sometimes. Damned earworm!

I was trying to be Very, Very good today as I wrapped up my assignments for the semester. Unfortunately, I got completely distracted by the fact that I hadn’t done a bloody thing with Pagan Parents since adopting the site. I got it working at a minimal level, so it should be easy to add content now.

Hint Hint: Content! I need content! Collaborators! Seriously, if you have opinions about parenting as a pagan, or you know of resources that I should link to, please let me know. If you know somebody who might want to write an article or blog with us there, have him or her contact me.

Wow. This has been a very short week. I’m sure it doesn’t feel that way to my poor Sam, but it does to me. That’s what happens when you sleep through most of it, I suppose. I’ve avoided acknowledging the possibility that Katie AND I have mono, but I have the same symptoms she does, and neither of us are getting any better.

My dreams are increasingly weird. I have to think that I’ve slept so much that my brain is done with ordinary processing, so now it’s dredging up All That Weird Shit. Increased hypnagogic episodes, oh joy. I hate those!

Dexter. Katie borrowed the first season DVDs from her boyfriend and we started watching them today. Now I don’t want to stop.
dexter.jpgYou have to have a fairly morbid sense of humor to appreciate them. I was afraid they’d be too gross, but it’s no worse than CSI.

It’s a very Scorpio series.

Laptop Research & Shopping

Sam and I spent most of our date time looking at laptops. Yes, we’re finally replacing the one that died last summer. Yay!

I find it easier to put what I find online in context after having actually played with a bunch of machines tonight, so I’ll be doing a lot of research online.

Anybody have any strong recommendations or good/bad experiences to share? Knowledge of any places that give “educational discounts” that aren’t just “steer your students to us and we’ll give you a little lower price on your own machines” deals? Sure experience exorcising Vista from a “Vista-compatible” PC? Please speak up!

Lunar Eclipse

During our date, Sam and I saw the full moon, then part of the lunar eclipse. Gorgeous! Katie and her fella are out moon-gazing and taking photos.
