Live Music in Atlanta
For years now my very favorite place to hear live music in Atlanta has been Fiddler's Green Coffeehouse, sponsored by the Atlanta Area Friends of Folk Music. It was held in a wonderful little cabin in the woods - in the middle of Buckhead. You felt like you were in a completely different place, honestly. Unfortunately the cabin burned down recently. The good news is that it is being rebuilt, and until then the monthly coffeehouses are being held in other venues. It's a little more rustic than going to a restaurant or club, but it is a great place for those who are more interested in really hearing good acoustic music rather than getting drunk or partying.
Unfortunately, Fiddler's Green is often the same night as the monthly Georgia Filker's Anonymous meeting! Sam and I did finally make it to a housefilk this month, and it was lots of fun. They didn't give us a hard time over not really knowing any filk songs - Sam did Stan Rogers' Northwest Passage and I contributed Breakfast Dishes from the Four Bitchin' Babes.
I hear Eddie's Attic is great, but I haven't made it there yet. A nice fellow from a newsgroup mentioned a place in Vinings, The Moonbean (770-438-0101), that has live music and a customer jam on Tuesdays, and I've just run across this list of Atlanta-area coffehouses, too, so I've got more places on my list to go visit.
